Its 5:05am in Africa. I swear the wild dogs run in packs of 40 through the side streets in this city (Lilongewe), and EVERYBODY has a rooster! Roosters apparently think 3:30am is morning. Geez.
Wow, thanks for all the comments, I will share them with the group this morning, we head to the village today... Linda, I will get pictures, for sure!
Im sorry if I haven't mentioned everyone by name... Ill try to go through them here.
Kayla and Mikayla are happy BUT, so far the food has been pretty good. They are attached at the hip so, if we lose one, we will lose both of them. They buttered some mean grilled cheese yesterday that Grant cooked. I cut those sammiches diagonal... you woulda thought you were at Panara bread by the time we served those babies up... ok, maybe not. Grant is the man... I can related to him. He spent most of the day fixing things here at the lodge, maintenance isn't high on the "To Do" list in Africa, I don't believe. Jimi, Cristi, Glen (we'll just call him OG for now), Doug, John (the Irishman) and myself went to the airport and exchanged some money and found Doug's bag today... so, he has underwear now. Kate and Abbey went on a grocery run with us today too. We got butter, cheese, bread, peanut butter and honey. Oh, and some Coke LIGHT (its really diet coke) for Jaquie before she took a hostage or something. Ha.
Lynda, Sherry, Jaquie, Cindy, Megan, Melody and Tammi all went on a walk (I think that's who was in that crew.... and they all came back in one piece, without rabies.
Janet smells really good... like a citronella candle because Doug gave her a mosquito bracelet. Im jealous... I stink like Deet 100, but I don't want Malaria either.
Grant and I accosted Max today and lifted him in the air to snatch a light bulb off of the outside of the building on a mission to procure a light source for Jimi and Cristi's bathroom. It ended with light, and no injury. (Im not too worried about injury now since I've heard the stories of Jimi sewing people up already on these trips. (No joke.)
I think that is everybody... forgive me if I left anyone out.... the roosters are ringing in my brain.
I think I have a mosquito bite on my wrist... Note to self: take malaria medicine today.
I have to say again how amazed I am by these people. They will give you the shirt off their back if you need it and heaven knows, they need it more than you.
A few things.... I saw a guy with a NHL jacket on today, and a guy with an old Miami Dolphins jersey on. I doubt hockey is real popular in these parts... he probably doesn't know what the NHL is. As for the Dolphins.... well, he must not know what the NFL is either because who would wear that? So... with that in mind, if someone could round up some of that trashy KU Jayhawk garbage clothing, I think I know some nice people here who could put it to good use and not feel guilty wearing it. Please mail it ASAP. While you are at it, mail me some awesome MIZZOU clothing and I'll hand it out. (Yes, I know its valuable, but let's all be charitable here...) Anyway, I'll hand out the black and gold and teach them to heckel that blue and red. :)
Well, we'll be off the grid today in the villages so I doubt there will be cellular, so I'll blog tonight. Oh... what does it matter, you are all getting ready to go to bed anyway. :) Its 5:49am here and 10:59pm there.
Remember to pray. Everyone is still healthy and in great spirits here, let's hope it stays that way. Thanks for the comments and text messages... incoming texts are free. (Don't worry about the time of the text, I get them when I turn the phone on.)
Luv ya and miss you all... our lives are so good. Be thankful for what we have.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY
ReplyDeleteI hope the amount of bugs per cubic inch is less then during Florida's love bug season...
No amount of citronella braclets would help then, just ask Janet.
